‘ON THE GROUND’ SHOW FOR JULY 29, 2016–‘We Know Freddie Gray Did Not Kill Himself’…Voices of Protest at the DNC…What About Environmental Justice?

Despite the pictures of unity, mass protests were held everyday inside and outside of the Democratic National Convention in Philadelphia on issues of Democratic support for war and the war industry, the Trans-Pacific Partnership Treaty, Black Lives Matter, fracking, and the occupation of Palestine. In the DMV, we learned that no police officers in Baltimore will be held responsible for the death of Freddie Gray in police custody. Yes, as state prosecutor Marilyn Mosby said in a statement that we hear during this show, Freddie Gray did not kill himself! We speak to journalist, professor and attorney E.R. Shipp about the latest from Baltimore and in the second half speak to delegates who were on the floor at the DNC in Philadelphia in support of environmental justice in this the year of Flint, of fracking and record heat. This is our week for environmental justice and EJ producer Michael Roberts, National Co-Coordinator at Environmental Justice Health Alliance, is in the house. Headlines and more.
